SouthWings awarded Conservation Organization of the Year at the 54th Annual Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet hosted by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and the National Wildlife Federation.
On Saturday, March 17, 2018 Volunteer Pilot Emmet Bartholomew accepted the award on behalf of SouthWings in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Flight partners, David Muth and Alisha Renfro of the National Wildlife Federation, were on hand to celebrate the achievement for outstanding contributions to the wise use and management of Louisiana’s natural resources.
This award is thanks in large part to the dedication and leadership of Associate Executive Director, Meredith Dowling. Since opening our Gulf office in 2012, Meredith has established SouthWings’ presence in the region by forging fundamental and strategic partnerships.
SouthWings volunteer pilots have played a pivotal conservation role by flying local and national decision makers, scientists, and media to witness the disappearing coast firsthand and learn about the work needed for coastal restoration. We extend a special thanks to our Gulf volunteers, because this award would not have been possible without their generosity.
SouthWings is proud to be recognized with this honor. We look forward to continuing our work to protect and restore Louisiana’s precious ecosystems.
