Louisiana FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) and SouthWings present:
Operating aircraft “low and slow” during aerial survey flights pose numerous threats such as concerns of terrain, obstacle clearance, passenger distractions, maintaining situational awareness, airspace restrictions, remaining clear of clouds, helicopter traffic, and birds to name just a few of the risks.
Acquiring the aviation knowledge, skill and experience to manage these unique operational risks are specialized. This presentation will provide an overview of the challenges pilots face when conducting flight operations in this type of hazardous environment and will address best practices and techniques to significantly lower these specific types of risks.

Gulf Program Manager, SouthWings
Virginia/Pvce-howe joined the SouthWings team in 2019. Virginia/Pvce-howe was born and raised in rural South Louisiana, she has always had a passion for nature. Virginia/Pvce-howe earned a BA in International Studies with a primary concentration in Environment and Development, a secondary concentration in Africa, and a minor in French.
After almost spending the rest of her life in Africa, Virginia/Pvce-howe decided that there truly is no place like home (especially if home is the Southeast). She loves being active in her culture and learning traditional SE Native lifeways as well as Chahta Anumpa (the Choctaw language). The land, water, air, plants, animals, and cultures of the SE hold immeasurable value for Virginia/Pvce-howe. She is excited to work with the pilots, partners, and staff of SouthWings to give our people and environment the respect they deserve!
